The AUSS Mentorship Program for 2010 is now open! This will link you with a practicing surgical consultant or registrar and is an ideal opportunity for you to learn more about your surgical field of interest. Our program this year will include most surgical specialties as well as ophthalmology and obstetrics and gynaecology. To apply for the program, please send us an email stating which surgical specialty you are interested in and a short paragraph about what you hope to achieve from having a clinician as a mentor. The program arranges for the student to be attached to a mentor, who is a practicing surgeon. It is hoped that students will be exposed to any number of the following activities:
- Discussions/Tutorials about practical and clinical aspects of a surgical field
- Clinical placements outside of official university periods
- Invitations to attend teaching seminars and conferences
Through these activities, the student will create invaluable links with surgeons in the community in addition to gaining significant knowledge and experience in a surgical field of their interest. **As time commitments of surgeons are limited during university periods, it is expected that students are available during holidays to participate in clinical activities and gain the most from this initiative.** Applications for 2010 are now open!
To participate in this program please send in your application to the Research and Mentorship Officers at
