The Research Interest Program was established to foster links between medical students interested in surgical research to research supervisors. It aims to provide a convenient route for students to establish contact with the relevant supervisors in their field of interest.
Student involvement in a research project brings a number of benefits: It enables the student to establish valuable links with surgeons in his/her area of interest; allows access to scholarships offered by various hospitals, foundations, and the university; improves upon the student’s grasp of statistical and research principles; and most importantly, it is a strong indication of a student’s dedication and commitment to a career in surgery.
Participation in a research project requires time commitment and basic medical and statistical knowledge. This year, we are embarking on a new direction and are aiming to establish an online database of research supervisors together with their potential projects and expectations for students. We feel this approach will inform students of the necessary skills and time commitment required for a research project, and students will have the freedom to approach suitable supervisors at their discretion.
Please do not hesitate to contact our Research and Mentorship Officers for further advice regarding the Research Database.
